Kawalerowiczovo historical drama, a prequel set in the late 17th. century, belongs to the group of european films in the 60's. years pointed to religious fanaticism, but also superstitions and temptations of the human individual. To the forefront puts the creator of the central female character called Mother Joan of the Angels, a nun possessed by the devil, who seduces the priest to the unclean and criminal deeds. A difficult test must also pass through the new incoming priest in a nunnery, whose predecessor was for his actions under the influence of the possessed nuns sentenced to death by burning at the stake.
